Be honest with yourself first
Only you can decide how important a shared faith is to you.
For some Christians, sharing their faith with a partner is essential. Others feel that respect and openness matter more. Think about what you want your life together to look like, and be honest about it.
Be honest with them
- Explain what your faith means to you, and how it shapes your week, your values and your plans.
- Ask how they feel about it. Curiosity and respect are good signs. Indifference or mockery are worth noticing.
- Don't rely on them changing. It's fairer to you both to start from where they are now.
Questions to talk about
- Would they come to church with you sometimes, or would you go alone?
- How would you celebrate Christmas and Easter?
- If it applies, how would you raise any children?
Take your time
There's no need to decide everything on a first date. Get to know each other, talk openly, and pay attention to how you both feel as things develop. Our guide on taking things slowly has more on dating in a way that feels right for you.
